How to hang vintage porch light fixtures; turn off the power to your porch light by turning off the appropriate circuit breaker. Remove the original lighting fixture with a screwdriver. Unscrew a thread nut without touching exposed threads. Tap the tip of a contactless tension probe to the exposed end of the cable. If the tester is activated, immediately stop your work and back to the power switch and turn off more switches that the power is broken to the lighting fixture. Remove the second thread nut and pull the lighting fixture off the porch wall.
Consider the height and position of your vintage porch light fixtures before installation. For a light junction box that is more than six feet outside the porch, install the fixture with the motion sensor on the bottom of the fixture for it will be activated with normal motion. Lower fixtures can be hung with motion sensors on either the upper or lower. Match the white cable of fixture with white wire of the veranda and Linda fixture wire clockwise around the exposed end of the veranda’s white wire. Screw a wire nut over the end of the cable to completely cover the exposed end.
